Maybe we need to ease you in! [ she calls as she reaches the water. yelena's rethinking her whole strategy on the fly. she'd hope the drive and the sun might have given him to time to get in the headspace needed to relax but she didn't know who she was fooling.
this is bucky. the only times he seems relaxed is when its just them in bed. so, she'll work him up nice and good. take him to the peak and hopefully, after, he'll be a little more pliable. but first, she needs to get him worked up. ]
Come on! [ she yells, pulling off her sarong and tossing it to the ground. ] Catch me and you get a prize!
You serious? ( about a prize, it's definitely incentive, especially when the tone clearly shifts to play. he loves a challenge. hell, they both do.
pushing himself up from the towel he'd been reclining on, bucky climbs to his feet. ) Like I'd ever let you get away from me!
( proverbially. there's balance between them, a deeply steeped emotion equilibrium tethering them together to a point that the soldier isn't sure either of them would know how to disentangle themselves if it really came down to it. the cost would perhaps be too great. )
You're on! ( he laughs, skipping after gleefully. )
[ yelena laughs and tosses her hat before running into the water. she knows she doesn't stand a chance against bucky, but that point isn't to win. the point is to have fun. she dives into the very cold water and starts swimming hard.
she figures play is better than trying to dive right into the hard stuff like laying in the sun. ]
Then come get me! [ she teases, when she stops swimming to look back at her lead. unsurprisingly it's not a big one and he's not fire behind her.
yelena scans the beach, there's not much to work with but there are some rocks to her right she could use to her advantage. she starts swimming parallel with the sand, slowly going inward. she's hoping she can lose him while he's not watching. she dives under the water, taking her time in an effort to lose him.
her lungs are aching by the time she crawls out of the water and into the rock. she's careful to check around the rocks, looking for the last place she saw him. ]
( there's beauty in the simple gesture of it, the casual toss of her sun hat as her head whips around, hair flipping back over her shoulder. carefree. is it really safe here? is it really okay for him to let his guard down?
he wants to. he wants so desperately to leave that ache in his chest behind.
laughing to himself, he charges after, matching her dive with his own as he lets instinct guide the rest. he hasn't swam properly in so long, the sensation as water glides across his skin tugging something old and familiar out from his memories as his arms throw powerful strokes to drive him forward. he'd gone to the beach often enough in his youth that he'd learned how to measure his distance in spite of the waves. waiting until he's a good 5 yards out, he bobs up again to look for where yelena might have snuck off to.
nothing notable above surface. but she'll have to come up for air, no? pressing out the air from his chest, he sinks a little to mask the top of his head with the waves, waiting for a glimpse.
nothing? but there must be movement somewhere, too. a break in a wave, or potentially a stray limb? ah, there. he catches what he thinks is an abnormal cut in the water as the wave pushes toward land and bobs under to swim closer. he's careful to keep his movement in line as he cuts through the water well under the surface, hoping the natural wake overhead will temper whatever breaks of his own he might send out. it's as he continues swimming that he realizes how refreshing the cool really feels.
when he comes up again, it's careful, head bobbing up the barest bit as before to try and find yelena. surely, there must be another sign. she can't have disappeared, right? )
